Mouse stutters and lags when I inser USB drive

Hi,

I have a bizarre issue which is that my mouse starts stuttering and then lagging for few seconds.
E.g. I move the mouse and the pointer will move like 5 seconds latter. Or sometimes it moves instantly but the movement stutters.
And this only happens when I plug in the USB key. Once I remove the USB key the mouse works normal again.
I rarely use the USB keys so I can’t tell when this started.
I have tried all three different USB keys that I have and all of them causes the same issue.

What logs should I check to begin troubleshooting this issue ?

P.S. I’m using radeon GPU, wayland and KDE plasma desktop. I have fully updated the system and the issue persists.

There is a new symptom, the first time I plugged in the USB key, my keyboard stopped working. Then I had to plugg/unplugg the USB key a few times before the keyboard was working with the usb key plugged in.

When it happens run journalctl -xe afterwards to see error messages.

You have a few USB port options there. Currently, if I’m reading it correctly, your mouse is connected to just a USB 2.0 port.

Try putting either the mouse, or the USB key, into one of the USB 3.1 or 3.2 ports.
