Mouse Cursor won't scroll to the bottom half when opening games

Hello all,

Just over the last 2 days I’ve noticed that whenever I open a game from steam in full screen, I am unable to bring my mouse to the bottom half of the screen. I used to be able to do this just fine.
The rest of the system functions normally. Even the game functions normally barring the strange restriction that my mouse cursor won’t below a certain point.

I have 2 monitors, I’m running x11. Any ideas what the problem could be related to?

Edit : Upon some further testing, it doesn’t necessarily have to be in full screen. There’s a deadzone at the bottom of both monitors that don’t accept inputs. I tested by opening games in windowed mode. When I kept the game above the dead zone it works fine. But If I drop a portion of the game in that dead zone, even though I can now move my mouse cursor to that dead zone since I’m in windowed mode, the game just won’t accept inputs from that region.

If I understand what you’ve described, it’s only within the game window itself that this limitation is present? Move the game window, and the limited area moves with it?

As it’s only occurred over the last two days, it may be been due to an update to Proton perhaps? Try switching back to an older Proton version, or switching up to Proton-GE.

Hi,
thanks for the response! I’ve been banging my head against the wall for a while now trying to figure this out.
Apologies for the wording there. it was a bit confusing. I meant to say that both monitor-screens have a dead zone. Games don’t pick up inputs from the bottom third of both monitors.

So I take a windowed game and just place it above this deadzone, the game works fine. If I place the game on the bottom half of either monitor, I can’t interact with the game anymore. I’ve tried using protons 6,7,8,9 and experimental so far and that hasn’t changed it. I’ll give GE a go as well. I suspect it’s probably not a problem with the games themselves as they run perfectly fine if played on the top half of the monitor. It is a perplexing problem and I haven’t had much success digging up old forum posts of similar nature either.
