Mouse and touchpad click randomly stop working

Hi,
I’ve been using this OS for the last few months with everything working fine, but last Sunday after applying updates, the mouse pointer is randomly unable to click on anything. It can go from a few minutes to a few hours without the issue, but it requires logging out and back in to fix the issue temporarily. Interestingly, the touchscreen still works normally when this happens.

I tried reinstalling all packages I could find relating to the terms mouse and input, as well as the plasma-desktop and it’s dependencies, but this hasn’t fixed the issue. I also can’t seem to find others with the issue online, or any mention of it on the surface kernel repos.

Could you please help me figure this out? Please also let me know if there’s anything I can provide or do to help or work towards a solution.

Basic system info if it helps:
KDE Plasma and KWin
Surface Laptop Studio (Linux Surface kernel)
11th Gen Intel(R) Core i7-11370H (8) @ 4.80 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile (525 driver; newer drivers have power issues)
Intel Iris Xe Graphics @ 1.35 GHz [Integrated]
16 GB RAM; 8 GB swap

One of the first things I’d suggest checking, is if the behaviour is consistent in both X11 and Wayland session.

You also might run updates again. If it was a common issue, it’s hopefully already been addressed.

I’ve been applying updates throughout the week hoping for it to be fixed, most recently on this Sunday. I completely forgot X11 existed xD, thanks for pointing it out. I’ll give it a try tomorrow and report how it goes.

x11 seems to be working fully!

Did you ever find a resolution? I’ve been using Endeavour for several years, this just happened to me a few days ago and has me stumped.

Sorry about the delay. I never found a solution. Did you?

I switched from EndeavourOS to Kubuntu to make sure I have Plasma X11 to fall back on until the bug gets fixed. I created a bug report on Ubuntu’s Launchpad for now and will do so also on the Plasma bug tracker.

Have you given it a recent go under Wayland @harmiess ? Things have progressed a lot for Wayland since last April.

Yup, it’s still happening on the newest Plasma Wayland release across multiple distros. I just reported it to KDE themselves since it seems like the best place to do so (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522733).

Also I just want to note that I’m now using Kubuntu. I was just curious if a solution had been found but I’m not really expecting much if any support here since I’m not using the distro.
