Hi everyone,
I’ve been having a great discussion with the LXQt developers regarding the future of the Task Manager as we transition to Wayland. As many of you know, with the move away from X11, we are losing amazing tools like DockBarX.
Currently, LXQt users have to use two separate widgets: “Quick Launch” and “Task Manager.” This feels a bit outdated and takes up unnecessary panel space. I proposed a native “Icons-only” mode with Application Pinning (similar to KDE or Windows 10/11) to unify the experience.
The Current Situation: The LXQt team is open to the idea (the feature request is open), but they mentioned that “nobody is working on it/interested in it until now” and that it’s not a “trivial” task to implement because of how the taskbar plugin is currently structured.

Is there any Qt/C++ developer here who loves LXQt and would be interested in helping the upstream team implement this?

How many of you would love to see a modern, sleek, pinned-icons task manager in LXQt?
Having this feature would make LXQt a much more attractive, lightweight alternative for Wayland users who want a modern look without the overhead of heavier DEs.
