Hello.
When sitting in a call or upon joining a call in discord, my friends often tell they can’t understand me because my mic keeps lagging/cutting out.
It starts happening when I open applications. I noticed it happening more when launching Source-Engine games and some window based applications. The issues persist until I reboot my computer and even then may resume once I start the application again.
I am still pretty unknowing when it comes to audio and window management on Linux, so I could use some help. Restarting audio services did not result in a fix when I tried the last 2 times and I did not notice any specific errors in the journal, I most likely missed something.
The audio interface is also not the culprit, as well as cable and usb-ports. It was ruled out by a new device, new cable and alternative usb-port and the issue persisted. Through on device monitoring I also know the microphone works perfectly fine while still lagging on call.
Other data:
Desktop: KDE Plasma using Wayland
AMD 7800X and 9070XT
1x 21:9 and 1x 16:9 displays, both via displayport
Motu M4 audio interface with XLR condenser microphone and headphones, set to pro audio
Software is up to date, the problem occurred for a while now anyways.
I did not fumble about in any alsa, pipewire or wireplumber files that I know of and the system configs as a whole should be pretty vanilla.
Having to reboot the computer is not the end of the world, but it gets tiresome after a while. So I hope some of you may have an idea where the problem could be and how to fix it for good.
If you need more info, logs or output of some commands let me know.
