Like you see, it is when it comes to graphic interface.
You could have used sudo downgrade. But passed that i guess. If you had btrfs you could use brtrfs-assistant, snapper-support, btrfsmaintenance and grub-btrfs with the grub bootloader. I have no issues with restoring this way. I don’t know why users tend to choose timeshift. 
After restoring from timeshift, you need to archchroot in and run reinstall-kernels.
You can use this guide for how to chroot in. Please make sure you mount your EFI partition as per the guide.
