Hi, I’m now totally fed up with Google maps.
I have a Dell latitude e7270 and maps, on the whole, shows jubberish.
I can find a single location but instead of options to search a route, it just shoew ‘i see’ across the screen.
I’ve tried the obvious of clearing the cache, but no joy
This is using Firefox.
Question is what map website or program do others use, hopefully that works.
Oh, when on holiday recently, the directions maps gave were wrong, and that’s in a European city.
TIA for any suggestions.
p.s. I did Google for options but they ‘don’t’ appear much better.
You must be holding Firefox wrong or something…
You could try Firefox with a new profile, to see if it works there.
Start Firefox from konsole:
firefox -P
and create a new profile and test if Google Maps works again.
I use qmapshack on my computer, which is “like” GM, but it’s also different. You can plan tracks in it, if you want.
For navigation on the phone/tablet I use OsmAnd+. There is a free version, just search for that name without the +
OsmAnd+ can record you track if you want it.
For sports tracking on the phone, I use OpenTracks.
I didn’t know qmapshack until now. I’ve just installed it. It looks very promising. But I’ll have to take a closer look. Thanks for sharing
This is also my favorite for cycling tours
Are you familiar with OrganicMaps? Similar to OsmAnd+ but a little more slimmed down
On a phone I’d recommend
HERE WeGo
instead of maps from Google or Apple.
It enables also to pre-downloading of full maps of any country, so it works even without an internet connection.
Didn’t know that app.
I took a very fast look. It looks a lot like OsmAnd, but seems to be missing onscreen things, like speed, TTA. Then again it was just a very quick view. I thing I’ll stay with OsmAnd+
Similar to OsmAnd+, as I said a little more slimmed down. Completely ok purely for navigation. Of course, use whatever is most useful for you
Originally developed by Nokia as Nokia Maps
Looking good. + for online traffic if you need that.
OrganicMaps and OsmAnd also works without internet
