After 17 years of using Ubuntu I installed a new laptop with EndeavourOS (with XFCE) in December and since reinstalled 3 additional laptops with EOS. I’m very impressed compared to the recent Ubuntu versions.
On all laptops the following icon theme is used:
I was under the impression this is just the ‘default’ icon theme, but I can’t find much information about it. Also when I open the ‘Appearance’ tool in XFCE no Icon theme is selected in the Icons tab. Once I select another Icon theme, such as Qogir, I cannot find the icon theme in the screenshot anymore. Does anyone know the name of this icon theme so I can properly install it? I guess it is a remains from many many years of upgrading and keeping my home-directory.
Thanks!
@flyingcakes@banjo thank you for your help! I had both Adwaita & adwaita-icon-theme-legacy already installed. The timestamp of both directories in /usr/share/icons show the moment when I installed EOS, so i guess they are installed as part of XFCE in EOS.
The weird thing is Adwaita does not show up in the Appearance dialog in XFCE. When I install Adwaita-colors they also don’t show up. When I install MoreWaita it does show up in the Appearance dialog. But I guess that is more an XFCE problem. It does work however when using the XFCE settings editor to manually set xsettings/IconThemeName to Adwaita (or Adwaita-xxx to use the colors variant), so problem (and mystery ) solved.
Thanks!
This is made by the same folks that make the Greybird theme and Elementary-Xfce icon theme (two of my favorite go-to elements for theming Xfce.) The Elementary Xfce Icon theme also includes a nice cursor set too.
I have to give them credit, when they made the Adwaita-Xfce icon theme, it brought Xfce to as close to default Adwaita as possible in all aspects. It’s the details that matter when it comes to the complete theme, but they did a good job. I believe these folks are also the ones that modified the default Greybird theme to a green (Geeko) adaptation for openSUSE’s Xfce install.
By the way, these are all available in the AUR…
adwaita-xfce-icon-theme
elementary-xfce-icons
xfce-theme-greybird
IMO, if you want the default Adwaita look on your Xfce, the adwaita-xfce icon set is an absolute must!
