that why i said its in line but its not exactly. I’m still looking at stuff I figure their will be more deals after friday. don’t know why its showing that price though the one I looked at was like 500 something ![]()
You probably didn’t choose the components I did (RTX5060 + 2TB SSD) ![]()
Take a look at this build I made for you on Part Picker USA. It’s not a beast but it’s full Linux compliant and it can play the most recent games at 1080p.
I need to set up an account before it will let me see what you selected
the parts list is private it wont let me view it ![]()
Ooopsie… Try again now or look at the screenshot I took (other post).
awesome will keep it bookmarked
I’d definitely go with an AM4 board and maybe something like R7 5800X, which is like 150-160 euros right now in my country. DDR4 isn’t too expensive right now, unlike DDR5, which is climbing in price.
GPU choice will be the most difficult one. Intel seems decent, at OK price.
I believe that Intel GPUs have minor issues running on Wayland but are very good on X11.
When I put my system together, I deliberately chose AMD components.
Gigabyte B550
AMD Ryzen 7 5700G. At the time, I didn’t have enough money to buy a separate graphics card.
I then got the Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 6600 relatively cheaply.
DDR4 16GB G.SKILL RipJaws V
Case and power supply included, all in all I was at around €550 without the graphics card.
For my purposes, EOS, video editing, and image processing are the main focus, and this is completely sufficient for my needs. Gaiasky, Stellarium, and SuperTuxKart run completely smoothly. I don’t use any other games or graphics-intensive programs.
Regarding “gaming PC” as a selling point:
This is an Excel spreadsheet for, each cell is performance-level combination for CPUs and GPUs.
I could give you the exact specifications given
- tasks (gaming, video editing, LLMs) and
- games (FIFA, Black Myth Wukong, etc.) you want to play.
Gaming PCs are actually “slow” PCs in top-left quadrant (11 o’clock), whereas LLMs and film-rendering PCs are the fastest in the bottom right corner.
For many LLMs and film-rendering tasks, gaming PCs are too slow.
Well the memory situation right now may just kill this adventure. even the one above that was originally under 800 is now a little over. Right time of the Year Wrong time for the economy. I will keep my eyes open for a decent second hand used Windows that some company is getting rid of because of the Windows 10 EOL.
Check the used market, because old business systems are going dirt cheap now.
I had to pay 100 extra for the RAM I ended up ordering due to the rising prices. And they’re only going up, so buy now or wait until whenever.
Yeah I thankfully am not destitute for one so I can take my time. I have 3 now. I just wanted a better desktop since the POS I have can’t be upgraded. Stupid proprietary crap.
CPU
So you could look at business desktops with older CPUs:
Intel
- 14600, 14600KF, 14600K
- 13600, 13600K, 13600KF, 13700, 13700F, 13850HX
- 12700KF, 12700K, 12950HX, 12900HX, 10700KF
AMD
- 7800X
- 5900X, 5900 (both slower than Intel above)
They’re on par among themselves and way above the gaming requirements, more in the hardcore gamer section. They’re higher than the recommended CPU for Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6.
None of them fall into the EOL bracket for Windows 11.
GPU
Radeon
- 6700
- 6600 XT, 5700 XT
RTX
- 3060
- 4060
They’re all right in the gamer section, but older. They fit the recommended requirements for Black Myth Wukong, for instance.
