Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 gets OEM support

Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 gets OEM support — does that signal the impending death of Ubuntu-based Mint?

This is very interesting news. Does it mean Mint is seriously considering moving to Debian based distro in near future? I think getting rid of Canonical and its many controversial moves would be perfect decision.

Yeah moving out of Ubuntu shadows will do Mint a lot of good. Only if they add support to LTS kernels like 6.12.x, 6.6.x that would be great.

I am not expecting Mint to ditch Ubuntu. LMDE was always a fall back, Plan B so as to speak for Mint team. And Ubuntu is not going anywhere.

What I am wondering is that which OEM will install LMDE 7 onto their devices? Or give the option?

I just hope that going full Debian does not mean that their excellent hardware detection and support dims. When I used Mint I especially liked the easiness of installing closed source drivers when needed.

We are living interesting times on Linux-world too.

That beauty of Mint is because of Ubuntu. It does have its downside though. Ubuntu has created bloated firmware packages. Not manufacturer specific or model/family specific. Not a good choice IMHO. But it works and that is all that matters at the end of the day.
