Page hit rankings on this site are meaningless.
MXLInux has been in the top #2 for about 10 years or something. Do you really believe that though? I like Jesse and his website but his Top Distro List is known for 1) itâs unreliability and is infamous for being an in-joke of sorts. Whose, I donât know.
And
Whatâs the big deal?
endeavourOS is #1 in my books as i have tried almost every distro on the distrowatch site and came to that conclusion 5 years ago! My opinion hasnât changed.
Mint is made for users that can or canât use the terminal with little breakage. Arch(base) is for users that seem to have more understanding of the terminal and are not afraid to use it.
So they both are 100%.
Indeed. They are meant for a different audience, with different experience levels and uses in mind.
And what about Mint going on top of MXLinux, yo sick!
Usually a distro will get a bump in clicks and their rank when a new release happens. Their Linux tech creators make videos or blogs or articles about it which generates traffic and inflates the counts.
Some MX fan probably has some bot army that pumps their numbers. Assumption, guess, not proven, fake news.
But seriously, Mint may fall down a few notches in coming weeks. Itâs a typical new release pattern.
Arch Linux receives more search hits. Since EOS is based on Arch Linux and shares its solutions, the gap between Arch Linux and MX Linux in popularity is significant.
On Reddit:
- MX Linux: 8.1K members
- Linux Mint: 110K members
- Arch Linux: 280K members
- EOS: 17K members
- Manjaro Linux: 71K members
When it comes to the average computer user, if they know about Linux at all then they probably have seen a magazine about Ubuntu, which is far more widely used than all the other distros. Just to put all of this into perspective.
From the Distrowatch website - The DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking statistics are a light-hearted way of measuring interest in Linux distributions and other free operating systems among the visitors of this website. They correlate neither to usage nor to quality and should not be used to measure the market share of distributions. They simply show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch was accessed each day, nothing more.
You know that, but why did you create your OP if it seems pointless?
Yeah and anybody should know by now that EndeavourOS is the #1 Linux Distro!
Apparently those Page 404 Errors really add up.
This means anyone with a proxy can post fake comments, fake reviews and fake clicks. I know for a fact itâs been happening for years to a certain top distro (not Mint) with 50-100 votes per review, the same person also spends lots of time writing fake negative reviews for EOS and Cachy.
There is saying in Finnish; lie, bigger lie, statistics.
I think that when talking about statistics considering Linux-distros we have to remember that this subject causes lot of strong emotions and thus is subject that we wonât ever be able to get statistics that we can trust 100%.
I personally donât get this âmy distroâs better than your distroâ debate that usually ends in a way that both sides get angry and start bashing The Other Distro on the web. This My Distro vs. Your Distro is one of the sentiments that bugs me in Linux community in general and was one of the reasons why I hesitated long to become full-time Linux user because I did not want to be branded as That Guy (I uSe ArCh By ThE wAy).
In my opinion all distros have their place and we should accept the fact that one distro you use is not for everyone.
SAME
In English: lies, damned lies, and statistics.
Consistent outlook!
In English I believe those exact words were attributed to Mark Twain.
As for Mint. It was my 1st Linux toe-dip (I read it was easiest) I removed it after 5 minutes. âI just left Windowsâ I said to myself and I thought this was just like Win 7. I needed a challenge and moved onâŠ
âŠthat said if it brings more people to Linux/foss then thatâs alright.
Jesse has a magnificent site and I adore DW. The top 40 or whatever has always been a long-running in-joke imo. Evidence: MX.
