Linux-lts upgrade, nvidia conflict and missing wifi in network manager

i followed this post and did

yay -Rdd nvidia-lts

i am not sure whether its nvidia-lts or nvidia-firmware to be precise. i am forced to do it because i am not able to update the system with yay. The conflict got resolved but after reboot, my wifi adaptor connection is missing from the networkmanager widget. i can see create new vpn though.

How to resolve this, please

is not the correct command
this is the correct command

sudo pacman -Rdd linux-firmware
sudo pacman -Syu linux-firmware

I would add:

yay -S nvidia-lts

As it needs reinstalling

yeah good catch.

thanks, i will try and let you know the outcome

Nowhere in the post does it say to remove nvidia-lts so I wouldn’t be suprised if he doesn’t have a nvidia gpu.

yeah not sure why he thought he should remove that but I guess a reinstall then the correct command should get him up and running again hopefully.

i copied the Rdd and the nvidia part from the post. as a coincidence, i had a failed update (cancelled manually because it was taking forever) prior. so i used the switches but changed the package name for the conflicting one.

note all of you kind peeps: i am able to install the missing packages without internet (from pacman cache). i am able to connect to wifi and posting this from the same machine

Do you have a nvidia gpu and the lts kernel?

will check mate. for the academic interest on how i messed with packages

$ nvidia-smi
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

online research confuses me even more

seems no nvidia

so there is no need to have the nvidia-lts and chances are you never had it so the intial command should have failed.

means, i can confidently delete nvidia-lts

yes since you don’t have nvidia you shouldn’t need that package.
