Linux-lts update on nvidia, problem?

Today the following LTS kernel update caused a boot fail here:

$ checkupdates
linux-lts 5.10.88-1 -> 5.10.88-2

So users with the LTS kernel and nvidia-lts driver, be aware of this. It may cause the same problem for your system.

Note that UpdateInTerminal and also Welcome’s update button will warn about this update before doing it and let you choose whether to proceed or not.

If you have already updated linux-lts and boot fails, you can downgrade the linux-lts package with the downgrade program in TTY:

sudo downgrade linux-lts

I’m on the LTS kernel (also with nvidia), and did this update earlier. No boot failures for me, thankfully.

Thanks for the heads up @manuel, I use the current, LTS, and Zen kernel, so if one breaks it’s not the end of the world for me thankfully. You did mention the nvidia-lts package, which I actually don’t use so I’m not able to test and replicate this error (that was my intention in the beginning in the hopes of confirming the error). It looks to be an issue with the latest LTS kernel, so it’d probably be wise for anyone to hold off updating if they are using both the LTS kernel and nvidia-lts

Just to clarify, I did update my system to see if the issues affects a wider range of packages, but I am able to boot the latest LTS kernel just fine. So it looks like for those with nvidia-lts and linux-lts 5.10.88-2 should hold off updating possibly until a 5.10.88-3 update is released.

I currently have the 9 following Nvidia related packages installed. nvidia-lts is not among them just to be clear:

extra/egl-wayland 2:1.1.9+r3+g582b2d3-1 [installed]
    EGLStream-based Wayland external platform
extra/libvdpau 1.4-1 [installed]
    Nvidia VDPAU library
extra/libxnvctrl 495.46-1 [installed]
    NVIDIA NV-CONTROL X extension
extra/nvidia-dkms 495.46-1 [installed]
    NVIDIA drivers - module sources
extra/nvidia-settings 495.46-1 [installed]
    Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver
extra/nvidia-utils 495.46-1 [installed]
    NVIDIA drivers utilities
endeavouros/nvidia-hook 1.0-1 [installed]
    pacman hook for nvidia
endeavouros/nvidia-installer-db 2.5.2-2 [installed]
    Database for the script to setup nvidia drivers in EndeavourOS
endeavouros/nvidia-installer-dkms 3.3.12-1 [installed]
    Script to setup nvidia drivers (dkms version) in EndeavourOS

@lucidae I think as long as you don’t have the nvidia-lts package along with this latest LTS kernel update, then you should be okay.

Yes, the problem I have is related to the nvidia-lts package.
Users with nvidia-dkms should not be affected.

Looks like package nvidia-lts update to version 1:495.46-6 fixed the problem here.
