I’ve tried changing desktop environment in the login. Removed ~/.Xauthority and lightdm.conf and rebooted but doesn’t work. Thought something was causing problems and nuked ~/.config to see if I can go in.

After installing lightdm you have to enable the service.

Update: Enabled service and run it again to get the same result. So I created new users and login with them. That also doesn’t work. The issue seems to be the entry selection that I messed up in the lightdm config. Moved to a new display manager and it just works fine again
