Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G8 IRL and endeavouros

Is it possible to install Endeavoros if in bios I don’t have option to change to achi or disable Intel VMD. There is no option to use admin password to see hiden option

Not sure if this might be of some help

On another note i guess you mean AHCI (not achi).
To be honest it sounds kind of strange that a modern notebook would not support AHCI to me.
So a bit more info about what you are trying to do might get you some more help.

I never had a Thinkpad where I needed a second password to see more BIOS options. Either you can get into BIOS or not. Or don’t you have the BIOS password? Company laptop or bought a used one?

Regardins installation: I only know that “Secure boot: enabled” is a showstopper. VMD or AHCI might affect performance. But this is just my observation. Still need someone to confirm.

If boot up with USB stick works and secure boot off you should be able to install.

Works fine, I’ve had various Linux OS’s on mine now for 6+ months.

My configuration is Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G8 IRL 14" i5-13420H 16GB RAM 512GB SSD ? Did you only disable Secure Boot?

I’ve installed EndeavourOS on dozens of ThinkPad’s and all I had to do was disable Secure Boot.

Have you checked under advanced settings in the Bios and looked for hidden menu’s?

  1. Navigate to Storage Settings: Go to the Configuration or Advanced tab using the arrow keys.
  2. Disable VMD: Locate Intel VMD Controller and set it to Disabled. If you do not see VMD, look for Storage Controller Mode or SATA Controller Mode and change it from RAID or Intel RST to AHCI.
  3. Save and Exit: Press F10 to save your changes and restart the laptop.

Actually, at first I didn’t even disable secure boot as I had OpenSUSE on it, and that supports Secure Boot. I did turn it off when I had Endeavour on it, and left it off even though I’m running Fedora that does support Secure Boot.

Oh, actually, I just looked, and mine is the IAL, not the IRL, if that makes a major difference.

My configuration is ThinkBook 14 G8 IAL 14" 2.8K U7-255H 64GB RAM 2TB+ 2TB SSD (chinese exclusive config for the display).
