Large Update This Evening [4/30/2025] - Kernels/Nvidia

OK, so most of y’all know I have a new PC. And this is my first experience with a relatively new Nvidia GPU.

Having seen so many threads here and elsewhere about problems after updating kernels and/or Nvidia drivers, I was a bit nervous about the update this evening, 3 kernel updates and Nvidia update.

21  extra/nvidia-open-dkms            570.144-1                   -> 570.144-3
20  extra/nvidia-utils                570.144-1                   -> 570.144-3

27  extra/linux-zen                   6.14.4.zen1-1               -> 6.14.4.zen1-2
26  extra/linux-zen-headers           6.14.4.zen1-1               -> 6.14.4.zen1-2

81  core/linux                        6.14.4.arch1-1              -> 6.14.4.arch1-2
80  core/linux-headers                6.14.4.arch1-1              -> 6.14.4.arch1-2

79  core/linux-lts                    6.12.25-1                   -> 6.12.25-2
78  core/linux-lts-headers            6.12.25-1                   -> 6.12.25-2

Rebooted, and all is well.

Whew! What a relief! :rofl:

How frequently do you update? Daily or alternate days or Weekly or some other schedule?

I’m a serial updater. I update after my first cup of coffee in the morning, and after I get home from work. So at least twice daily.

you have been lucky to update on nvidia-open-dkms :
it failed for nvidia version , that mean we have to start to switch on nvidia-open now

@joekamprad @thefrog @dalto @manuel
be careful for series Maxwell that are not working with nvidia-open drivers

i have tested return for nvidia-inst -t --32 ( and -t -o --32 )
for maxwell for instance this is only closed driver , not recommend for open.

work in nouveau for maxwell have just started

they will created specific for version 5.35 ( i think last better stable for closed nvidia current )

i have never had a problem with updates , also on Nvidia and I update like daily .
just updated now in fact

I have never had problems with Nvidia but AMD has caused me problems.

So far, I have never had a problem with a Nvidia update, and today is no exception. I know people do have problems with updates but I reckon the vast majority go smoothly.

I also had no problems with the kernel updates this morning. But it really was a huge update

Well, I’m currently trying to update… but I’ve got broken dependencies that are related to the fact that I’m using
the ALHP x86-64-v3 repositories. Which didn’t caused any issues up so far, since I’ve switched to them a month ago.

There are some broken dependencies, in relation to libelf as well libxml2… the current workaround is to exclude those from the upgrade.

It’s known to me that the ALHP repos are by design behind the official repos… and I guess the issue will resolve itself within a day or two.

that’s what a sudo pacman --replace nvidia ---> intel can do ? joke – > do NOT run this..

Gdamit, why the hell did I think I have Nvidia??
I must quit drinking and typing
:sob:
No wonder nothing ever goes wrong here

I disagree - if drinking can prevent this, then by all means continue. Maybe I’ll give it a try… :clinking_beer_mugs:
