Laptop doesn't wake after suspend; display black, system unresponsive (keys, SSH)

My laptop (Dell Precision M4800) doesn’t wake from suspend under EndeavourOS. Symptoms are pretty much as described in this post.

This system also has a Win10 and a Ubuntu installation on it; both handle suspend without issues.

What can I do to make suspend work under EnOS as well? If you need information like from journalctl or .conf files, please let me know. I tried to look into it myself a little, but the 25,000+ entries from journalctl were too intimidating. Couldn’t spot anything with journalctl -xe either.

when querying the journal maybe add something like
journalctl | grep "Failed"

see if that helps narrow the entries to go through and that will allow you to post those messages here for us to see.

Should I use this in combination with sudo journalctl -b -1 to post?

sudo is not needed

journalctl -b -1 | grep "Failed"

is all that is needed.

journalctl afaik does not show all output without elevated privileges…

i’m so used to viewing that in a root i forgot that it will hold back output when not in root.

thanks for the reminder of course the good side is I never need it anymore since i have learned what i needed to keep it going lol.

Emk2203, your output looks identical to this issue:

That doesn’t mean the cause is similar, but when it comes to NVIDIA drivers you never know. There are some weird firmware implementations out there from hardware vendors (I’m looking at your Legion series, Lenovo) so you and I get to wait for a fix.

If you find out it’s a different cause, come back and let us know. The more info, the better.

Brightness is a separate issue. Afaik it’s unrelated to the complete freeze of the system after wakeup. I came across this issue as well when trying to debug, but no one indicated that it’s also influencing the suspend/wakeup cycle. If I am wrong, please let me know.
