Hi everyone, I’m experiencing frequent system stutters and input lag on my EndeavourOS setup, especially when switching workspaces or interacting with the system after idling. Animations often appear choppy until the system “catches up,” and there is a noticeable input delay when scrolling in the browser, typing, or performing other actions after inactivity. I also made a video in slow-mo with demonstration of the issue, in the first frame you can see a noticeable stutter when I switch the desktop, then this problem disappears and the animations become smooth again. Here are my system specs:
-
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2070 (proprietary drivers)
-
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D
-
RAM: 24 GB
-
Kernel: 6.12.59-1-lts
-
DE/WM: Hyprland
What I’ve observed:
-
On EndeavourOS, GPU load often drops to 1–2% after inactivity.
-
As a result, the GPU doesn’t ramp up fast enough to render animations smoothly, causing input lag and stutters.
-
On a vanilla Arch Linux setup with the same hardware and similar configuration, this issue does not occur.
Things I’ve tried so far:
-
Tweaking animations in Hyprland
-
Reinstalling NVIDIA drivers
-
Switching to higher performance modes
-
Experimenting with Power Profiles Daemon
-
I suspect this might be related to EndeavourOS’s kernel being more aggressive in power saving, causing the GPU to downclock too much, but I’m not certain.
Has anyone experienced similar issues with Hyprland and NVIDIA drivers on EndeavourOS? Any suggestions on how to debug or fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
