so this is my first post? here and Ive been using endeavour for a little bit now and its been fine apart from the stuttering or lag whenever i play games or play videos it tends to be fine for a few secs then it starts to lag and its been happening for other distros I’ve used so I’ve came here to ask if there is anything i might to download like driver wise etc.
I’m currently using an Lenovo ideapad slim which i found laying around my house it has an amd a6-9220e with 4gb ram not sure if any of that is important or not but its there.
thanks in advance for anyone that makes suggestions on what i can try.
Welcome @TheOGslime
That CPU is a very modest processor, low-end even in its day (Q1 2018). Now that’s not to say your current experience can’t be improved in some way, just setting expectations.
What desktop environment are you using? This will probably be one of the biggest factors in performance. If you’re using KDE Plasma or Gnome for example, I would expect it to struggle on modest hardware.
I have an old NUC of a similar generation, and although KDE Plasma is my preferred desktop environment, on that NUC it was painfully slow and unstable. I was ready to bin the system, but ended up trying the LXQt desktop environment and I was astonished that the difference in performance and stability was night and day.
That’s simply not enough information to go on!
What kind of video files/formats are causing problems (resolution; H.265, …)? Are you trying to stream (which platforms?) or play locally (Blu-ray, files from hdd, ssd, usb, …)? Which players have you tried? What desktop are you running? What kind of internet connection (speeds)? …
Your AMD A6-9220 has integrated graphics with hardware codec support for h265 and lower, VP9 and lower, AVC, VC-1 but not AV1, which means a file with this video codec would need to be fully decoded by software which could be too much for your cpu. But even with hardware codec support your system will only be able to handle certain resolutions.
As for games, your system just isn’t able to handle any serious gaming. So, what kind of games are you referring to?
