Kmail and other KDE-Apps no longer starts after today's update!

Updates for the KDE apps just arrived. And now Kmail won’t start. Error message: kmail: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKPim6WebEngineViewer.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN14QWebEnginePage17runJavaScriptImplERK7QStringjPN9QtPrivate15QSlotObjectBaseE, version Qt_6

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Several apps are no longer working. Calendar and contacts are also down.

So please don’t update!!!

Everywhere this error occurs: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKPim6WebEngineViewer.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN14QWebEnginePage17runJavaScriptImplERK7QStringjPN9QtPrivate15QSlotObjectBaseE, version Qt_6

These are updates for KDE-Gear. I am going to update.

So, quite a few things haven’t been working since the update.

I am back. Did you reboot the computer, or at least log out and log back in?

Yes, I restarted the computer. And there was a longer break after the restart.

I have same issue with kmail. I don’t actually use KMail. But the app is installed. When I start KMail from the terminal, I get the following output

❯ kmail
kmail: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKPim6WebEngineViewer.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN14QWebEnginePage17runJavaScriptImplERK7QStringjPN9QtPrivate15QSlotObjectBaseE, version Qt_6

Yes, same as me.
And it’s not just Kmail.

It looks like KMail and KContacts are causing this problem. Have you posted on KDE Discuss yet? Or submitted a bug report directly to KDE?

No, I just wanted to know if others are experiencing the same problem.

As you can see, I’m having the same issue. You can either downgrade everything or wait for an update. You can also post on KDE Discuss. They’re pretty quick to come up with solutions.

I have made a thread at KDE Discuss:

The culprit is most likely the recent upgrade of qt to qt 6.12.
The now failing KDE Komponents are build against 6.11.
So this is more a packagers fault, not KDE.

Yes, me too right now.

Allright, so we can sit down and wait and have a beer :clinking_beer_mugs:

@swh
I’d add the information that EndeavourOS is using qt 6.12 to the issue.

You mean in my KDE Discuss post? Thank you. Done!

Extra-Testing includes this version of qt6-webengine: 6.140.0rc-1.
I installed them: now everything works again.

I don’t have Kmail or Kcotaacts installed. But KColorChooser, KDE Connect, KDE Partition Manager, Kdenlive, Kate, Gwenview, Konsole, and Kcalc all open as expected.

Then this probably only affects programs that require qt6-webengine 6.12. But that version is only available in Extra Testing for Arch (6.140.0rc-1).
