Hello all, My 20+ year old Dell keyboard has served me well, but the keys are getting sketchy, as are my tactile sensations as well. I am looking for a wired keyboard, preferably mechanical with backlighting(can be RGB), and having some kind of volume control. I don’t game and don’t use Windows at all, and am trying to steer clear of keyboards that have all sorts of programmable features that are dependent on Windows orientated software. Any recommendations will be much appreciated.
A very nice keyboard, but expensive. Doesn’t have the backlighting though.
I am going with a keychron
and quite happy with it.
I paid last year €114 now they are at €84.
I’ve got two keychron mechanical keyboards in the house - one without numpad on a Dell and the other with numpad on a Linux-cured iMac - and both are delightful. Love the tactile feel, and the clicky sound that’s both satisfying feedback and a touch retro.
Too many choices of models and key sensitivity to mention. There are also loads of aftermarket keycaps to satisfy most any custom choices.
Also: Had an odd issue with one of them and found their customer service to be responsive and accountable to reach a solution for me.
Happy hunting!
I like my keychron a lot
well, it looks like there several us of keychron fans.
I have two Q Pro series (Q6 pro that I have at work, and a Keychron Q1 Pro) that I use at home. They make some fantastic keyboards.
Keychron has 25% off but ends today.
been through 2 Keychron’s, both have issues now, mainly the manual switch on the back fails. Been using 60% Blackwidow Razr for the last 14 months with no issues.
I’ve been absolutely in love with my gmmk pro with panda switches I built a year ago. It was worth every penny.
Keychron Q6 Max is what I use and it’s outstanding. I have the banana switches.
I’ll tell ya the keyboard I really loved was the Sparc keyboard that came with my old Sun Ultra 10. I wanted to find a way to build an adapter as the DIN pin out was different from PC PS/2 specs. Wasn’t able to make that happen, sadly I let the board go to e-waste…in a moment of clouded judgement.
you know I have an original IBM PC 5150 in the original box and still works. I should see if I can adapt the keyboard
There is only one keyboard review guy that it trust. And that’s chyrosan22 on youtube how never fails to entertain.
Have to check if this keyboard will be available in my local AH supermarket, at least they seem to have most (if not all) its components available.
keychron is pretty good.
The only issue with keychron is… the huge variety of keyboards models they are offering.
I’m still not really satisfied with the one I’ve chosen with the low-profile K5 Max and I’m looking for different switches which is a bit tricky, at least for the low profile lineup of keyboards.
Their most popular keyboards is the Q1 series. which can get quite pricey fast. But they’ve got a more budget friendly brand, which is the Lemokey P1.
Well I flipped a coin and bought a ET Mechanical Gaming Keyboard RGB Backlit Keys Computer Keyboard. Love or hate it, it will definitely be a big change from the old, drab, cheapy keyboards I’ve been using for decades,
I’m glad you’ve found a keyboard that meets your requirements. Have fun with it
