Resyncing my OS takes 173 sec, a hair under 3mins.
It is a full rsync from 1TB NVMe to 1TB SSD at 500 MB/s. My MB is 14 years old and PCIe Gen 2 only. With new MB PCIe 5+, NVMe is claimed to be 10,000 MB/s or 20X faster.
Do you have experience with those next-gen NVMe?

Just to be clear the comment was in jest. If it works, it works. 
I only have - current, last gen? - PCIe 3 NVMes, but yeah, these hit the expected 3000 MB/s vs the SATA3 drives with 500 MB/s max. I assume newer generations provide their advertised throughput too.
Here snapper makes instant btrfs snapshots on the main NVMe drive, and than the snapshots are transferred to the “slow” SATA3 backup drive once a day in the background.

If someone steals your notebook it doesn’t make a difference if you have auto login activated or not. They can access your stuff anyway.
Autologin with disc encryption, for example, it a really nice thing to have.
