Kdenlive issues on wayland

I used to work with the flatpack version. Which load correctly and all, but now (after some update) don’t show the selected video in the player, only a grey screen. I read somewhere it is a software issue and to use the appimage, which i did and worked. Now if i try to lanch the appimage it just crash without launch.

Try the previous version of the AppImage to see if it works.

You could also try it from the repos - working fine on my side from there.

I’ve never had any issues with the Kdenlive version available from Arch’s Extra repo.

Download the appimage from there. Same story. :hugs:

Huh? You got an appimage from Arch’s Extra repo?

Remove your appimage completely. Forget about the Flatpak or appimage and install the official version from the Arch Extra repo.

sudo pacman -S kdenlive.

I’ve removed and erased everything, folders included. Restarted and installed the repo version. The program works just as the flatpack but the video don’t show in the internal player.

I’m the one who suggested an AppImage. But I specifically suggested an older AppImage, in case the issue is related to the version rather than the way the program was packaged. I’m not sure if “Download the appimage from there” means you tried an older version.

Sounds like it may be a driver issue? Out of curiosity, what drivers do you have, what GPU?

You can find out specifics by running inxi -Gaz. Post the output here and maybe someone will spot something.

And is your system fully updated?

Fully updated. I have an integrated intel and a nvidia card. I tried to switch to hybrid, solo nvidia, solo intel and all the time the bug is still there, also in the x11 session same story.

Yes. Still didn’t start.

Well, it’s probably not related to Wayland then, if it also happens in an x11 session. Is audio working?

the audio works and the video (while not showing) still can be edit and can be saved. Is just the internal player or some codec relaterd to it.

I did a search for codecs/plugins necessary for Kdenlive.

Perhaps run sudo pacman -S mlt ffmpeg frei0r-plugins ladspa swh-plugins to ensure all necessary codecs/plugins are installed.

Installed and restarted. Still no changes.

I’m completely at a loss here, then. Hopefully someone will come along with additional assistance.

Also if someone know why the appimage version keep crashing without start (tried older version too)

Must be something specific to your setup. Works fine on my end, so you’ll probably need to run it through a terminal and send the output here.

It could also be your view settings.

Under “View” there are two options: “Clip Monitor” and “Project Monitor”.

If either is unchecked, it may cause you to not be able to see anything depending on what you currently have selected - a file in your project bin or one on your timeline. For instance, if only the “Clip Monitor” is checked, then you can’t see anything because you don’t have a clip in your project bin selected - you have a timeline clip selected.

That said, you should still be able to see a black background based on your project’s dimensions, so this may not change anything in your case.

That’s a good idea. Could be some useful info in the output.

All is good here using the official Extra repo version…
