KDE Wayland black screen

EOS newbie here, i have been using EOS for over a year and have just now come to an issue. I’m not very versed in linux but love to learn new things. I have been using wayland up to this point and the issue I am having is somehow involved with Wayland. I can start an X11 session just fine but Wayland starts to login in then restarts right back to the login screen. While in an X11 session I attempt to start wayland with.

startplasma-wayland then get this returned

Pixmap: QGuiApplication must be created before calling defaultDepth().
QPixmap: QGuiApplication must be created before calling defaultDepth().
kdeinit5_wrapper: Warning: connect(/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0) failed: : No such file or directory

org.kde.startup: "kdeinit5_shutdown" QList() exited with code 255
startplasma-wayland: Shutting down...
startplasmacompositor: Shutting down...
startplasmacompositor: Done.

Looking through wayland-session.log

Error: could not determine $DISPLAY.

sudo startplasma-wayland while in a X11 session yields

startplasmacompositor: Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?

qdbus while in a X11 session yields

At this point I want to try to fix the issue before just starting over again. I hope I have given enough information. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum @1slotrk there are a couple of posts already similar to this have you had a look at them?
Also remember that Plasma 6 is very new for now you may have to stick with X11. Other places that may hold some answers to your problem would be to ask on the KDE forum or see if it is a reported bug (unfortunatly for some weird reason I have been unable to load this today though to checK)
(I’m not an expert just trying to point you towards some help)

Wow, if I’m reading this correctly. This may be the first case that I am seeing of this with just intel graphics.

I have been reading for the last 2 hours and attempting different things. Most of the issues have been with NVIDIA cards. I have found one with an intel graphics that more or less stated to use X11 if wayland doesn’t work.

Thats sort of what I thought too

Have you tried creating a new user to see if it isn’t some config file you have? Also maybe try with a different kernel

One thing, I’m wondering about is why is kinit5 being used for plasma6. I checked and it doesn’t seem like anything depends on it. If you remove that and reboot. I wonder what would happen?

I read a post about it but no i have not. Let me do that real quick to see.

I have a spare machine laying around, so I’ll give it a try for the both of us.

Hmm, I’ve been having similar thoughts with a few threads that is might be related to orphans. I removed mine after the update and have had a pretty good experience so far. I also only have intel

No change with creating a new user

i cleared orphans already with

pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qdtq)

Well nothing appears to be broken after removing kinit. My test machine still logged in to a wayland session fine. Gotta be honest though

I didn’t even know you could do that from x11. Has this worked in the past?

Hmm, this is odd, I have a Intel 530 so not so different from yours. Did you try with a differnent kernel?

I have never tried so i don’t know.

I cleaned my orphans too, but kinit was not removed on my system. I checked if anything depends on it with pacman -Qi $argv | grep -i "required by\|optional for". And it returned none. Removing it did not prompt the this package is optionally required for some other package either.

I did try the non-zen kernel and the fallback kernel with no improvement

What led you to kinit?

The logs you posted.

I am assuming kdeinit5 is kinit?
