KDE/Plasma X11 session removed from archrepos / Plasma moved to wayland only

Fyi, here’s one of the bug(s) related to setting the Wallpaper in the Login Screen, seems resolved now. Not sure in which version: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521008

For clean setups this all works fine, but any stale configuration files
from 6.6 that are root owned now cannot be overridden.

may something like that.. also strange if it woul hit someone setting up plm just now and using sddm before ?

Please, consider announcing important stuff like this not just on the forums, but also on your socials (Xwitter, Mastodon etc), if not at Endeavouros.com/news/

Yes usually we would have done so for sure, currently still into migrating servers, bringing a complete new to us content management for website and wiki to life.

In addition it`s not an announcement basically the switch was announced by KDE 26 November 2025 https://blogs.kde.org/2025/11/26/going-all-in-on-a-wayland-future

Anyway, we will indeed consider a better tomorrow .. Always ! :rocketa_purple:

For anyone who has done the switch and is struggling with flickering/moving/double elements on login:
Try clicking “Apply Plasma Settings…”

Worked for me.

What about those who have other DEs installed. PLM doesn’t work with those per the wiki entry. Do we need to hold on updating anything for SDDM to catch up?

No. The SDDM situation only happens with KDE as far as I can tell. I use it with LXQT and it has/had none of the listed issues.

Thanks, I understand that. I meant from the KDE side. Do we block KDE updating to 6.8 until sddm updates for it?

Plasma/KDE is recommending PLM to be used.
I tried SDDM with proper theme and config and it does work also properly with latest Plasma/KDE there was only an issue with changes on the configs.

Yeah I understand why they recommend it, it’s their new shiny log in manager. I have to test software across multiple desktop environments and so using PLM isn’t an option, since it doesn’t truly support non KDE DEs yet. At least I am still seeing crashes and reports of freezing. I’ve just seen peeps here mention 6.8 has issues with SDDM.

I use Openbox, KDE, and Hyprland (and labwc and i3) with SDDM. Updated to 6.8, logged in, and surprisingly didn’t have any issues I wasn’t already having with KDE Wayland. Keeping SDDM should be fine, and support for it won’t just die immediately. It’s an independent package that many distros use.

Don’t know about a wiki entry, but so far I used it with labwc and cosmic in the past and it worked fine. Give it a try.

got sum booshi warnings today when updating. Trying to find out why. AI said it was a race condition when removing packages and that the manifest will now be up to date for the future? So maybe swapping order in pacman -R because sddm package manifest tracks those parent theme directory structures in eos-breeze-sddm? :face_with_bags_under_eyes: After some research it seems like pacman -Rns sddm to resolve the depend tree would have been better to prevent these warnings. Feel free to correct me.

Thats not related to eos-breeze-sddm from what i can see its If during an update an attempt is made to update or remove files that no longer exist locally on the file system, but are still listed in the package database (local database) as the property of the package shipping these files. so may only a hickup while you was removing packages in different attempts?

I’m an idiot. I checked pacman logs and then .bash_history and found that while in my drunken state I removed /usr/share/sddm :man_facepalming: I think its fine though. I guess I figured since sddm was being removed I wouldnt need it. I have a backup in timeshift for my stupidity in case I’ll ever need it.

Feel free to share the used liquid :clinking_glasses:

I use a nvidia 1070ti and wayland since 1 year I guess, no problems. And no problems with 580 driver from AUR since nvidia cancel support :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: for this generation.
