FYI
Similar to gnome, KDE will drop X11 support. This will happen sometime early 2027.

Bye bye xorg-server and sddm!
pacman -Q xorg-server sddm

We knew it was coming…the only surprise is it’s still coming
(ie not already here)
I still hear the echoes from not so a distant past: “Wayland Sucks!!” ![]()
There are still applications that lack full functionality or performance under Wayland, hopefully that will be resolved before early 2027.
I would say if they haven’t by then, they’re unmaintained ;0
Are you saying that they don’t run properly under XWayland?
In a lot of cases they run but without full functionality or at a lower performance level.
For example, some software works but the screen sharing functionality doesn’t work in wayland. In other cases, things like seemless keyboard/mouse transitions or copy/paste is not fully functional.
And…no…they aren’t unmaintained. It is mostly commercial software.
I know there were tech hurdles for supporting a few things (like screen captures), but I think most if not all are possible now. So…it’s a matter of prioritizing resources.
Neither GNOME nor KDE are running screaming off the bluff in a suicide pact ![]()
I get xorg-server, but why sddm? I thought KDE were taking over that package and maintaining it for use as their default login manager service?
sddm had a dependeny on xorg-server. And I wanted to try plasma-login-manager anyways. So I got rid of both.
Isn’t plasma-login-manager still pre-release?
Trying it is perfectly ok, but I’m not sure removing (even as a fallback) the existing solutions is a superb idea…
I removed sddm a month ago. You won’t know the difference.
Can’t wait to see this.
in the meantime a new version of xorg-server is available in the Arch repos.

Sure but did you read this warning?
“Caution
It is not recommended to install this on your system — you should use a virtual machine instead. Installing this on real hardware will leave behind files not trivially uninstallable and could leave your system in a non-functional state.”

It’s so over
I still read them over the Zorin forums, they still blame wayland for stuff that dont work. I have litterly zero issues with wayland and it’s running great on all 3 machines here. On the Acer Predator i switched between wayland and x11 in the past, wayland was very stable on the desktop and on x11 i noticed alot of glitches (flickering/scaling).
We’re so back
