KDE Plasma 6.5.4 released!

It’s weird, when I try this it asks for github user name and password?! I’m reluctant to provide that!

Looks like it’s a no-go…

╰─❯ git clone https://github.com/taj-ny/kwin-effects-glass

There’s another fork…

Edit:
I just installed it…

git clone https://github.com/xarblu/kwin-effects-better-blur-dx
cd kwin-effects-better-blur-dx
mkdir build
cd build
cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr
make -j$(nproc)
sudo make install

What happened to the original one? The dev no longer maintain it?

Sadly it looks that way.

Same. Seems to have installed just fine. Gonna reboot to be safe then check out settings. Thanks, @Noodly.

My pleasure Unc. :victory_hand:

I have it working but it doesn’t have rounded corner feature like the original. :-1:

I think I’ll stick with stock blur for now, I’m not using a transparent theme so it’s all good.

got it, so this one not require credential to login right?

No, it installs without those details. It’s not looking so great though. Without the rounded corners feature the window corners look janky.

Yep, kwin-effects-better-blur-dx seems to work well! Thanks, @Noodly

Either I’m too stupid or whatever. I can’t get this stuff to work. Neither one nor the other. Besides, I think it’s completely ill-conceived that I have to rebuild the program every time there’s a plasma update.

Damn it, I’m sticking with kvantum.

I’m thinking the same or maybe going back to fully opaque :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Agreed! It’s a pain. :grimacing:

I tried again today after months of not doing so, after reading this thread. I had already written to you about what I think of this widget. I had hoped for improvement, but unfortunately that is not the case. It is explicitly stated in GitHub to rebuild it after a Plasma update. So I ran sudo make uninstall

Ya, I remember that

I have no patience with something I have to rebuild after each minor update, too Gnomish for me ;0

I’ll do without while petitioning the owners to move it into the main tree (if I had to).

Will `kwin-effects-forceblur` also make a difference if I’m only using Plasma’s default Breeze theme?

True, true. :victory_hand:
I’m running sudo make obliterate

@anon75236808, kwin-effects-forceblur is no longer being maintained…

I’m using kwin-effects-better-blur-dx.

I don’t see any reason that any of the blur effects wouldn’t, kwin-effects-forceblur is working great here. Partial Breeze theme on my set-up.
