I updated kde to 5.27.0 on the EOS install and I’m happy with the way it is. I just wish i could understand how the tiling works. It doesn’t work the way i want it or would like it to. I can press meta t and it shows layouts but i don’t how you implement them? I can tile Windows but they tile in a way i don’t like.
Why not try/add khronkite and bismuth?
I watched a video linked somewhere above. It’s not well documented. Meta T let’s definelayouts and moving a windows with shift pressed should move it to the tile in your layout once you hit the tile approximately.
I have not tried it - still on 5.26. Otherwise for a very-wide screen I installed the mudeer tilitng add on. So I have about 15 Meta(alt/Ctrl) + numpad shortcuts to move a window in different sizes to screen corners/center/top…
sorry @ricklinux i’m completely out of the loop. i don’t use tiling or plasma 5.27
I’ve bitten the bullet and enabled the Testing repo. For some reason Plasma switched to 125% scaling on reboot, but that’s fixed now.
As for the tiling… it seems like you have to choose an initial layout from “Load Layout” and then split tiles vertically and/or horizontally until you get the number of tiles and layout that you want. The release notes say that “this feature is still in its infancy and not designed to completely replicate all the features of a more mature tiling window manager yet”, and I can’t say that I’ll be using it yet.
Other than the initial scaling issue, everything seems OK and maybe slightly smoother

Looks like 5.27 will hit the stable repos today - plasma-meta has just been upgraded to 5.27 https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/plasma-meta/

I updated and everything seems to work fine, except for Discover (what a surprise) which is presenting the error

I can do that but it doesn’t change anything? I’m not sure how to initiate the tiling to what is loaded.
the new tiling system: it will allow you to set up custom tile layouts and resize adjacent tiled windows simultaneously. Activate it in System Settings > Workspace Behavior > Desktop Effects and then you can tile a window dragging it while holding down the Shift key. To create custom tile layouts, hold down the Meta (“Windows”) key, and then press T.

Some mirrors are not already sync. Try refreshing your mirrors list.

Turned on tiling and moving windows with shift does work. However, I can’t get to the Tiling-Editor because no matter what I set as Keyboard Shortcut it will be ignored, or much rather the setting isn’t saved. When I reopen the Tiling-Editor menu my shortcut is gone. Strange…

The tiling-editor was there for me. I just didn’t understand how the tiling worked at first. Now i get it and it is working but dragging a Window to get it to tile was a little different than i was used to or expecting.
When you say it was there for you, you mean in systems settings / Workspace Behavior / Desktop effects? It’s there for me as well, but I expected that I can launch it somehow to chose which tiling I want. And that’s what I am struggling with.
And then I just found another Tiling setting in Window Management / Window Tiling. That one was off, switching it on tiled all open windows but it seems to be somehow separate from this 5.27 tiling manager?
