Interview KDE Plasma is a Linux desktop which has just been updated to 5.20 - but why should users consider it instead of GNOME, the default for Ubuntu and Red Hat, or the lightweight Xfce? We spoke to Plasma maintainers David Edmundson and Jonathan Riddell.
Nice article. I am interested what Plasma will hold. At the moment I prefer the direction and apps the KDE team is creating over Gnome which just remove things like System Tray.
I guess I’m the wrong audience for this. I can’t think of anything beyond “try to use Gnome!!” as a way to push KDE. Gnome does everything different to how I want to work. I hated Metro on Windows, I still hate it that it’s been renamed Gnome. I don’t personally understand how anyone can consider Gnome to be usable it’s that bad for me.
I am a KDE fan since Plasma, but before that I was strictly Gnome. Even though Gnome feels more restrictive, it has some nice apps that even beat-out KDE’s efforts, like Evolution. KDE’s Konnect/Kmail/Kontact PIM system should just be gutted and replaced. However, Gnome’s system tray is almost useless, along with the locked-down taskbar. It makes my head explode , and caused me to finally switch over to KDE. I think if Gnome replaced it, I might have a hard time deciding distro to use, maybe .
