Another great Brodie video. This one about KDE getting the respect it deserves, particularly in Fedora.
I always liked Dolphin and it’s F4 instant terminal feature. Since they added Github commands, I can maintain the EnOS aarch64 github repository from a single window.
I do not know of any other file manager that can do that. So for now, I am hooked on KDE Plasma.
Pudge
I started watching Brodie quite recently and I was quite shocked to see he switched from tiling window managers to Plasma (yeah, I know there are tilers for Plasma but still…).
Tbh, I never really considered Plasma a #2 desktop on Linux, since it’s one of the two majors and… probably more suited towards Arch? At least based on its release model. I personally have a love-hate relationship with it, but it’s good to see it has more recognition.
Conversely (to you), I have GNOME hate because a) the developers don’t listen and do what they want b) and they seem to mostly hate mods (resulting in breakage about every time)
I can live in their ecosystem, but prefer not to. I’d rather live in a more primitive tiling system just because it’s less likely to have update issues than GNOME.
GNOME w/o mods is frankly too bare a landscape for me.
Fully agree. I use BSPWM on a daily basis. It might not have seen the update for the last couple of months, but it just works and is fully reliable once you adjust it to your liking.
Meanwhile, I have recently tested Zorin OS for some time. It was… okayish, even though I’m not a huge GNOME fan. Mint Cinnamon would serve me better for a non-thrilling GNU/Linux environment.
Plasma is the most popular desktop on Arch Linux, and this applies to Arch-based distros like EndeavourOS, Garuda Linux and Manjaro. One major reason why Gnome is more supported on point-release distos like Ubuntu and Fedora is Gnome’s release cycle.
