I don’t know how many of you have looked at Kaos over the yeras, but’s been an opinionated distro, providing a independent repo of mainly KDE software.
Apparently things are a changing, and the most recent ISO is trying to go systemd free utilizing Niri, seems a bit change and one I will have to try out, because I always loved the theming in KaOS and have used it for some time in the past. My major issue was the lack of repo packages for things though

I tried Kaos back in my distro hopping days. It was a very well put together distro with lacklustre repositories. They covered all the basics though.
I suppose the main thing behind the decision is that Plasma is becoming more and more systemd-dependent.
Quite a strange choice with Niri, but I suppose there is shortage of Wayland compositors with stacking layout by default.

Well, it’s pacman so you can still add any repo that takes your fancy as long as their repos are above.
it is only pacman, but not arch repos, they build different packages.
But a well maintained Niri Setup is nice from what people say its also easy to setup and offers a very good interface.
I’m sick today, so I’m a bit slow..but I just did a live boot of Kaos and I have to say I’m impressed by the theming, it looks pretty slick and indeed I’m tempted to find space for it in an install.
I think I’ll hold off till I’m thinking more clearly before I start with repartitioning something though..but it’s definitely interesting and continuing the ‘well-themed’ experience.
Can you please elaborate on this? There are other non-systsemd distro which use KDE.
Plasma-login-manager has requisite systemd hooks. Scuttlebutt at the moment is that KDE otherwise (for now) will remain untied to systemd.
