Good grief. Quite a sad read.

Yep, I read it early this morning. Not quite sure what to make of it.
That is quite some incoherent rambling. No idea what to make of it.
That was quite a sad thing to read.
Thy really treated him like shit and ghosted him.
First bad thing I have ever heard about KDE.
Did they though? You just read one side of what sounds like a complicated social situation.
Maby…but if everything he says is true then it is a shit move of them.
I don’t know any of the people involved and have absolutely no knowledge of the situation.
However, I strongly suspect the situation is not this one-sided. I would be surprised if others didn’t have a different perspective here.
My heart goes out to Jonathan. I just read his blog post and the comment thread on Phoronix. I have a lot of half formed thoughts about the situation.
When I see something like Riddell’s writing, there are always two things that come into my mind:
1.) What really happened?
2.) Was writing like this really necessary?
Of course things may be just like he wrote and we who have questioned truthfulness of his writing are all wrong. But things are rarely black and white and it would be nice to know both sides of the story.
I have always disliked “announcements” like this one. It’s okay to tell your side of the story, but it can be made in a way that you don’t have to go blaming your ex-friends (who may be in complete dark before reading your writing) for being in “wrong” side of things when you were the only one doing the “right thing for society to do”.
But I don’t know, this was depressing and tiresome one to read. Too bad that things went this sour.
While I can’t deny his work over the years, he was apparently forced out of Kubuntu too. I think he likes making drama out of a normal situation.
Even if we take his version as read, it still appears to be another individual who wants the project to bend to him.
I go surfing at the end of the world.
This must be Australia.
No such place.
I don’t know him at all, nor the situation at KDE. As most of you already wrote, there are always more angles to a story. This is clearly a case where emotions and facts piled up on each other, which is understandable. Open source projects mostly run on passion, and we all know from any other projects like these, emotions can ride high. I do hope Jonathan finds his way again and wish him all the best in regaining his life.
Just a side note, I think we all should keep our heads cool until we know all the facts before “blaming” KDE. I’m only saying this in case people are wondering or demanding whether we should abandon KDE on our project because of this. At this moment, there is no reason for us to do such a thing.

Nate Graham reaction on Phoronix :
.
An the other thing: I have made a donation to Linux.
Yeah ok interesting…don’t know what is true or who is correct but it sure stinks and a Bad stain on KDE as well as open source projects.
People should be rewarded/paid for their work!
And some bickering should not affect a Project nore should people be excluded or ghosted for something thy say or do.
It’s to much free leeching in Open Source.
If I was ritch(i wish) i would give Milions in support to Open Source projects! Like: EndeavourOS, Linux, KDE, and as meny important devs in Linux world i could find.
Reading tea leaves but Nathan’s response rings true. Wanting sweat equity only works if everyone agrees to it. Clearly if you want a part of a business there needs to be a donation of capital to buy in. Sounds like someone wanted a stake for “past contributions” and that was not acceptable to the other parties involved.
There’s something else going on here, and it’s responded to very clearly here :
I’ve been reading JR’s posts ever since the early 00’s, and I genuinely feel sorry for him. I’d rather not speculate, but when he mentions his family, his kids being taken away, etc etc, it feels like there’s more to this than just an operational disagreement on KDE eV.
