Why not just ban everything from China if they are so worried about it? Seems like a move for investors to make sure the AI they invest in is what the People are forced to use. Still more of someone else’s fat boot on our neck.

If they were for real, they would ban Windows first.

Why would they do that? I’m sure Windows has all sorts of call home mechanisms and intentional security holes. It’s on their side.
The were to scared to ban them (technically Microsoft was supposed to break up) however we all see how that ended. Windows had/has the market so the Government never pursued it because they were to dependent on Windows at the time.
Windows gives the US Government Access which is why they don’t. They can’t get that from the Chinese.
I don’t personally use LLMs but I also don’t support banning them or preventing anyone using them through fines or threats, I know this is just a proposal currently. I would bet this is likely US AI companies that lobbied to the government in some way (My guess since the US government recently put in a US AI development initiative) since Deepseek makes LLM more accessible and resource efficient to use and reduces people buying their US AI services. Whether I think the LLM is good or not or how Deepseek built it’s software for various reasons is irrelevant in this context or topic so I won’t mention them.

On the other hand I love Chinese cuisine so all is forgiven. Far Eastern food in general is most of what I eat when I make food. 
My partner, she loves it, I prefer my veg cooked, not just warmed a bit 
(and I really dislike star anise and 5 spice). Perhaps I should ask Deepseek!

Never been to the USA, my only experience is the 
sold in fast food outlets, which have been used in an emergency, so no yuck.
I also dislike Donner kebabs

Hmm… Please define American food. I d honestly be interested in knowing this. I can think of only one example that may be considered American. Cajun comes to mind. Blackened was never my first choice, but a cajun pork rub is pretty bad ass. Maybe Yankee pot roast, but not sure about that…and I do not consider MacDonald s, or any other fast food part of the answer. That all is a joke.
