šŸ’» I've Joined The ThinkPad Cult [UPDATE: 05/27/2026]

Re: Cachy I liked the btrfs snapshot setup, I’ve used it a few times. And whether it really is or not, it feels snappier (not lying).
So, how’s it feeling for you? Used it much, I know you only completed install about six hours ago :0

Feeling quit nice. I’ll know more over the coming days after I get all my apps/packages installed and fully theme it.

It’s an amazing bargain! :open_mouth: However, given it’s origin, it may be haunted :ghost: :winking_face_with_tongue:

Welcome to the Cult @UncleSpellbinder :hugs:

FINALLY! RAM has been upgraded.

  • From 16GB single Channel to 32GB dual channel.

The ridiculously simple process. This laptop is super clean inside! And I noticed it has a SIM card slot for mobile, as well.

I couldn’t be happier!

You’ve done well with that system @UncleSpellbinder :clinking_beer_mugs:

Buying RAM in the current market is pretty rough.

poor-no

While it did cost more than it should have, it was actually less expensive than I was expecting. Especially for genuine Lenovo RAM.

I am a long time Lenovo user - you made a coup with that one

A couple of month ago I acquired a second-hand T495 specifically for the troubled WWAN card that comes it.

The sole purpose was to learn how to make the xmm7360 wwan card work with Linux.

I did make it work.

Am I the only one in the ThinkCentre cult?

I got one of those too

I’ve got an IdeaPad!

:light_bulb:

I would happily trade my M4 for this magical piece of kit. Nice catch!

I’ve got a Thinkbook!

I have a ThinkCenter and 2 ThinkServers. Plus a few ThinkPads. I’m practically a high priest in the Think* cult.

I owned a Thinkbook for a little over a year, what a piece of junk.

Removed the memory, SSD and threw the rest in the garbage. ( happiest day of my life )

But you have on Idea! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

My Thinkcentre 720q was a great all-around home server for years; now it is mostly running as my Roon server. It is a great little machine, definitely worthy of a cult!

they are a lifestyle. been re-using/re-furbing older ones from the beginning. IBM (before lenovo bought them) designed these things to take a commercial beating. the old mobos were SSD pre-config’d before they knew what it was. The fitted and integrated Intel stuff was never flashy but it was solid as are other harware componenets.

I mean you look back at yr computing life…Dell, Compaq, HP, Gateway..all hiccups and problems sometimes. But the Thinkcentres? Never done me wrong. That’s gotta be how we judge a product at the end of the day anyway. I’m using the old 920 SFF right now and quite happy.

@UncleSpellbinder sorry to hijack. Like everyone else on this thread I am in deep envy, especially for what you paid

I got a ThinkPad T570 and I like it so far. There is only one stupid issue. Sometimes the NVMe is not detected when booting. Then I have to turn it off, tab the case where the NVMe is located and turn it back on. Normally NVMe is detected then.

I searched the internet and found other people with this issue. Seems like a general issue with the solder joints (I hope I used the correct words. ). But I’m not able to repair it …

I really like mine. I THINK it’s a decent laptop. I’m not going to throw it in the garbage!

Bumping with my Xfce desktop share:
