After a summer of distro hopping from distro to distro, I’ve realized that Endeavour and Arch is the way to go. Yeah, it is a bit weird at times, but I can minimize that as much as possible by following @dalto’s advice for keeping your system mostly trouble-free. I’ve even learnt how to setup snapshots: literally just install two packages… Thanks @lorebett for your blog post regarding setting up snapshots on Arch.
So you said goodby to OpenSUSE Thumbleweed? Why?
Welcome back, although you never left
There were some issues with a piece of software I needed. It sort of worked, but not in the way I would have preferred. The thing that made me switch was the fact it wasn’t too different from Arch in many aspects. Both distros work very well, though, so any work. If I get another freeze on Arch while updating, I will probably permanently on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, however.
Glad to hear that my blog was helpful!
Half of the joy of Linux is exploration, discovering new distros, tools, options, I think we’ve all run down that road at some point or another before coming to a choice that’s based on what works for us, not what the latest trend or social talking point is.
As long as my data belongs to be, my compute experience is in my control, and I’m able to get my work done, the right tool is the one that works for the job at hand. There’s a world of choices out there, far more than there ever has been, welcome to the golden age of Linux
Welcome back. Good that you are still with us.
I thought you’ve been here all along?
about twice a year I try opensuse.
about twice a year I bail on opensuse.
I keep doing the dance but never wind up there.
it’s probably rock solid and all that but when I look around and open stuff it’s like everything I’ve ever seen rolled into one. I never got excited.
for you it was “a program” you needed. for me it’s only the ‘charge’ I get. that’s about it.
I feel the same way about openSUSE. It’s rock solid, but I’ve never gotten beyond testing it for a few days once a year. I’ll take a closer look at Slowroll once it’s officially finished.
There are distros and there is EndeavourOS. Although I still actively used openSUSE Tumbleweed. In terms of stability, it also stands the test against EOS.
I was still on the forums, but I wasn’t using EndeavourOS as my main OS. I was using OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.
Hi, could you please share the link to dalto’s advice? Is it this post?
Yes! That’s the post I was referring to.
