EOS has gained something of a reputation (in a good way) for being right up there as one of the best distros out there. I don’t agree with Chris Titus that any that aren’t pure-Arch are pointless, - some of us have lives to live, and just need things to work. EOS smoothens so many time-sinks and rough edges, I absolutely wouldn’t be running Arch if my only option was to run it pure.

To quantify that, I’ve run Arch in the past, I have it down to 12 mins to get a system up and running, but it’s the post-install madness of having to hunt down exactly what components aren’t there, from blatantly obvious things, to edge-cases, that adds a few more hours that I don’t have. EOS wins because it’s actually sane, reasonable, and unapologetically helpful. Here’s to many more years on the Purple Side! :purple_heart:

This.

I once did install of pure-Arch to old laptop and it did run just fine and I was able to follow instructions.

Before jumping to EOS I tried to install Arch, but because of unclear instructions, wiki assuming that I know all the ropes and all other dumb things I decided that there must be a easier way and that’s how I found EOS.

I may be just crazy, but in my opinion wiki was much more ā€œfriendlierā€ before.

Arch is just Arch. EOS is Purple Arch. There is no pure Arch … only vanilla.

Seems I’ve spent far too much time giving various other distros (Arch-based, et al) a serious try only to wind up crying.

But since installing EOS (now on up to four machines running throughout the day for years now), I’ve never regretted it for a moment. And because it’s free, I can afford to make occasional donations to various folks who do some lifting on our collective behalf.

Between the robust nature of EOS, the choices offered as to how to set things up, and its first class community forum, it’s hard to imagine a better way to run Linux. Beats decades stuck with Win and Mac - hands down.

Yeah not surprising EndeavourOS is the BEST Linux DISTRO!
Not one of the best, THE BEST! ! :enos_flag: :enos:

It made Arch easy! For everyone! :enos_flag: :purple_heart:

And also the only OS, Linux distro i ever given money to! (no Windows don’t count you were forced to pay for that crap! :face_vomiting: for years!)

In general, I’ve noticed that Chris is just not interested in Linux anymore and has moved back to Windows. Alongside that, if I remember correctly, in his tier list, most distros land in the ā€˜useless’ category simply because they’re most are based on Debian or Arch. Unless they are independent and do something completely new and different, he considers them useless and boring, which, in my opinion, is just an incomplete image of the entire ecosystem.

Having used EndeavourOS for several months now, I can say that it’s no real surprise to me.
