It's 2024 and Libreoffice Calc still can't print properly

I’ve just spent close to an hour trying to get Libreoffice Calc to print a defined range of cells, scaled to fit one piece of A4. This isn’t rocket science…

I’ve tried everything from trying to export to PDF, to Format - Print Ranges - Define. It insists on just printing one cell on every page :joy: So I’m just going to sit here, rock back and forth in a corner, and remember, that overall, the experience in Linux is far and away better than edge-cases like these (albeit not really an edge case… printing has always sucked donkeyballs in LO).

I am trying this in LibreOffice 7.4.7.2 on my Debian 12 system and the define print ranges appears to work fine. I am testing on a small spreadsheet of about 12 lines deep and 12 columns across. When I use the Format → Print Ranges → Define it successfully prints to the printer or a pdf file exactly the ranges I specify. I rarely print from Calc, but it seems to work as intended for me.

That’s odd. More so that that version is pretty old?

My version is
Version: 24.8.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 480(Build:2)

It’s potentially my spreadsheet, which is a dozen tabs in size, and full of formulae… Digging through the Libreoffice forums, there’s limited responses or answers for people who have the same problem.

Coming back to this as I found the bug : Check your margin settings. For some reason, the page margins were set to stupid values by default. (Correct page size : A4, but margins were set as the actual paper size, which makes no sense).

Format → Page Style → Page Tab → Set top and bottom margins to 0.64 each if you have overly large values.

A second idea to change the print size is in the same dialog as above but instead Page tab use Sheet tab and change Scaling mode to Shrink print range(s) to width/height or number of pages

Thanks. The crazy thing is that I tried that, - but it wouldn’t work, it was the margin settings that were over-ruling it.

For me shrinking print ranges worked, even when I did not change the margin setting …
