Issues with second monitor resolution on laptop

Hi. I have an HP Victus 16 Laptop. It has an nvidia RTX4060 for laptop.

Until this morning I was happyly using my system since months with EXWM, and I decided to take a look to Budgie.

I installed the Budgie package and when logged I noticed my second monitor (an LG ultrawide monitor with a 2560x1080 resolution), now gives 1920x1080.

I logged into KDE and same (and came back to EXWM with same results). Something is broken (not saying related to Budgie installation, just giving context)

This is my xrandrd –query, it no longer shows 2560x1080 as possible mode.

I tried almost everything I guess, including removing optimus-manager, installing prime and so on.

The only way I can get the right resolution is changing this in nvidia-settings (and only with nvidia as primary)

But this is for scale, not real resolution.
Some has an idea about what can be the issue and how to solve? Obivously I tried with several HDMI cables, and this monitor and the same cable works as expected with 2560 resolution on an win11 laptop.

Did you update the Nvidia drivers to 580.105.08-2? If so diwngrade them and the nvidia-utils package to 580.95.05-1 using downgrade

It looks like. I have the version you wrote. But trying to downgrade start failing for dependencies, and adding more pacakges to downgrade command asks for more, is safe?

I just needed nvidia and nvdia-utils, using the command sudo downgrade nvidia nvidia-utils

Will try later, but when I did this first complained about dkms package.

If you use Steam etc., just be sure you downgrade these 5 packages:

nvidia-open-dkms (or nvidia-dkms)
nvidia-utils
nvidia-settings
lib32-nvidia-utils
libxnvctrl

After the downgrade, add them to the ignore list.

/etc/pacman.conf
IgnorePkg = nvidia-utils nvidia-settings nvidia-open-dkms libxnvctrl lib32-nvidia-utils

Edit: For a 4060, if you use dkms, it is recommended to use nvidia-open-dkms over nvidia-dkms

How to know when is safe to update?

They’ll probably fix it in the next version (580.XXX.XX), since it’s a major regression. We’ll have to keep an eye on it. :wink:
