issues with Bluetooth headphones

Hi, I would be happy if someone could help me with this problem I’m facing.

I recently installed EndeavourOS on my PC, and I’m having an audio issue, especially when I’m on a voice call.

I first noticed this problem while I was on a Discord call (using desktop app). After a few minutes of silence in the voice channel, I tried to speak, but no one answered. After a bit of investigation, I discovered that the others could hear me, but when they spoke, I couldn’t hear them.

I thought it was a discord bug so I ignored it for a while, however the same problem occurred with google meet (and discord website) as well. The problem is solved only when I turn Bluetooth off and on again.

Thanks in advance to all who will reply to this message

Hi and welcome, not too sure what the issue may be but you might be able to find something here that could help.If not hopefully someone will be able to help you out.

I use to have an issue on my Desktop with the bluetooth usb dongle. Those are utter crapola. Bought a latest gen Bluetooth card with an antenna. I can now walk across my house without losing sound in my earbuds

This is likely the first thing you did, but I’ll ask anyway. Did you install the bluez and bluez-utils modules for bluetooth? I was having issues too until I installed those.

What type of BT peripheral are you using? WiFi connected to motherboard with BT support?

I’ll check it out, thank u

I’m using a laptop, Bluetooth module is embedded

edit: both of them were already installed

What’s your setup in terms of mic and headphone? Is it a wireless headset with integrated mic? Like a gaming headset or a music one like Bose or Sony?

the model of my headphones is Marshall major 4, it also have a microphone, but the issue also occurs if I use the laptop mic while the headphones are connected.

I see. Does it happen with laptop mic if you disable BT?

Also, are you on pulse or pipewire for audio?

I think it likely is a profile issue with the headset. Just ruling out the easiest stuff.

I’ll look into it, because I’ve had a similar issue before and it was related to profile switching issue with Bose headphones. It can sometimes select the non-mic or the low quality mic one.

It doesn’t happen when headphones are not connected.

I’m using pipewire.

I also thought about profile problem, but I still didn’t check

Seems likely then.

I know LLMs aren’t always reliable, but gpt gave a quick solution you could try. This is the prompt I used; “endeavouros bluetooth bluez marshal 4 headphones with mic. During meetings, slack etc, other people can hear me, but I can't hear them after a while”

I’ve used it successfully to debug more advanced stuff when I was setting up VPN sockets with app specific routing only for inbound etc and some other stuff. Between that and wiki it should be fairly easy to figure it out. If it still doesn’t work I’ll gladly help, or maybe someone with actual knowledge / experience is of better help :joy:
