i messed up all my iptables rules, is there anyway to reset to the default settings?

Also, you might consider using firewalld as a more forgiving front-end (it also abstracts away IPv4/IPv6 concerns).

If you are going to use iptables, just use ufw, rules setting is more verbose and easier to manage.
