Internxt now has a VPN and Antivirus

Has anybody tried them? I see they now include post-quantum encryption too so they seem to have a decent offering privacy wise.

First, welcome to EndeavourOS and the EOS Forum, @larajane182! :enos_flag:

I won’t pay for cloud storage, regardless of how secure or private it claims to be, or for extra bells and whistles. And Internxt’s free storage option is only 1GB. I use MEGA cloud storage which has a free tier that starts at 20GB (but you can get to 30GB free by having MEGA installed on multiple devices).

Having said that, the option of a VPN and/or an antivirus mean nothing in my case. I use Mullvad VPN already and an antivirus in Linux is completely unnecessary.

Who all has access to the Keys?
The problem with Corporate Encryption is that Corporate usually has the ability to get or just flat out stores a copy of YOUR key. Nothing about this sounds secure to me. I would never trust a ‘Providers’ encryption.

Thank you @UncleSpellbinder!

I needed to move a lot of files so free storage is no good to me anyway so I just needed something on top of my OneDrive account, is MEGA good for streaming videos for this?

I mostly use the VPN now anyway, I also don’t have much need for an Antivirus, I rely on the Windows one but yeah, if you use Linux it’s unnecessary

Based on looking around their help centre they are zero-knowledge, so all the keys are managed on my device, so only I have a copy.

So Says they. I wouldn’t trust them.

If using a cloud storage is a necessity for you, there is always a possibility to encrypt your data on your device before sending it up into the clouds.

When it comes to this particular provider, their code seems to be open and it has undergone independent security audit from what I gather. Now I am not capable to read and understand code, neither have I read the security audit report but they are available (here and here). Though the subject of the security audit was the Internxt mobile applications for Android and iOS.

By this I don’t mean that you should endorse and trust them. For trusting something, you would need to do research and find good reason to trust. Oftentimes for mistrusting something, I have observed no such process is necessary.

Also have to remember that Corporations change all the time. What normally starts of as ‘USER’ Friendly ends up being more ‘Investor’ Friendly at the end of the day. IF you need a cloud solution maybe just invest in a Next Cloud solution. To many examples out there of how their evil prevails when corporations under go management changes.

sorry @cactux I hit the wrong reply button

Hello,

Thanks for the info!

Yes, I understand this is best practice for everything as well as backing up on multiple platforms, so I’m using a bunch of other options as well so I can keep all my videos safe.
