elementary OS 8 Review: Slow, Laggy, and Not Worth It?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDe8SHuEOgs

Depends on who you listen to.

your probably right! can’t believe everything you hear on the internet. i did that one time with someone giving dog advice and it was wrong. on youtube ironically… they said to not pet your dog before you leave your house and i believe you are supposed to sooth your dog before you leave. I regret years of neglecting my dog before I leave my pad because of lies (YouTube).

The truth is, for the everyday user who doesn’t need to play intensive games, edit videos, do 3D art or other more intensive work, etc. this is enough.

If all someone is doing is just browsing the internet and watching movies, listening to music, editing docs, etc., pretty much all the fringe DEs and WMs are good enough, especially the ones that are just here to look pretty.

I would definitely use something like Zorin OS if I wasn’t doing pretty much everything I said in my first sentence.

This is quite true. It should also be noted that DT almost never installs to hardware, and his checkout of the distro is, shall we say, cursory at best (at least going by the reviews I’ve watched).

When I used to try different distros all the time I rarely followed these about the most info I take from them is the name of the distro and then go check it out for myself. I watched another review from someone a few months back who had a completely different experience and conveniently left out a few things which I think people who tend to use Linux or other FOSS programs find important.

Straight from ElementaryOS website https://elementary.io/docs/installation#recommended-system-specifications
We do not recommend virtual machines as they don’t perform as well as a full install. If you are attempting to install in a virtual machine, enable EFI if possible but understand you may encounter other issues.

thankx for the info for real. i really have to be more skeptical of everything i read and hear on the net. probably applies to all of life as well. i was entirely basing my opinion on what that guy in that video had to say but best i try it myself to see how it goes for me if i am that intersted in elemetnaryos anymore but i don’t think i am… haha i really do love my purple operating system now. essentially i feel like endeavouros does everything elemetaryos does but more but that is just me and my opinion.

PS: also from my experience our purple community/club is light years more helpful

Yep, for most of them, their reviews are useless to new-to-Linux users, and even detrimental because they don’t set proper expectations. For people with experience using Linux, their reviews should only be introductions to new (or old) distros.

On that note: I noticed that on the EndeavourOS Discovery page, they list some of the bad reviewers. While Erik Dubois (Arco Linux) isn’t trying to entertain his viewers, he does educate them, and he does it pretty well.

I think he should be included, especially since two of those channels haven’t uploaded in over a year, whereas Erik Dubois (almost annoyingly) uploads practically every day.

Who do I ask to include his channel in the list of YouTubers to watch?
Do you know, @smokey?

Not too sure, Erik’s channel is great for learning. Agree he uploads a little too often
