Installer for xfce needs changing

OK I tried 6 times to install xfce though xfce is the choice of nvidia users No wayland and xwayland and not qt so it’s fast and low bugs. Now the choice of Plasma for an installer including xfce is like a bad joke. All the installer did after formatting was debugging constantly. DId anyone try to install with the current installer on metal not vm with an nvidia card xfce since I’m assuming everyone is using intel or amd for graphics so no one had a clue how terrible like the plague kde is with nvidia even xwayland is like poison. I couldn’t even get the installer to open just a cursor and a blank screen with proprietary drivers and only with open source drivers would the installer even open to try to install. I couldn’t even open an account to login here a week ago and it was like using a virus the last two installers with that plasma desktop for the DE. If you want more users then ditch KDE it’s a buggy DE and it’s alienating all nvidia users at this time. Just ask around and the problem was after downloading all the files pacman couldn’t open right so the installer error messaged then died right there dumping the files it downloaded already and you had to start from scratch again. I think maybe get/borrow and nvidia card or computer with one and try the installer yourself neo and the other one and you’ll want to pull your hair out 40 minutes into an install and it errors out. I can install manjaro in 10 minutes so this is kind or like a practical joke as in it pisses the possible new user off so bad they just give your OS bad rating on distrowatch and never try again and won’t even leave a message on this board since more effort for the people that made that OS that wasted hours of your life including download time is not happening, let them lose potential users. I did have endeavour installed but the installer was crappy then but by luck it did not crash on that version. TIme to do a QC inspection by trying out the installer with various video cards to see if it’s just me or is it that buggy from someone doing a shortcut or a glaring mistake like using kde as a universal installer even gnome would have worked better but mate would have been just as bad with qt since qt and nvidia do not play well together which is why nvidia is not good for video editing since the editors are mostly qt based meaning they crash or do not even start.

First, Welcome to the forum.

Second, all the bad-mouthing and calling things a “joke” and saying the Calamares installer is bad… WOW. Lots of assumptions in your rant. Not the best way to seek assistance. First impressions and all.

I hope someone can assist you, but I’m out.

I really had reservations about approving this topic but here we are.

First of all most users can install Xfce4 without issue whether they have Nvidia or AMD gpu. It doesn’t take 6 attempts and i can install it in under 4 minutes as i do all the time.

I don’t think is a very good way to get a warm welcome.

Many users are running Kde Plasma with Wayland on Nvidia without issue.

This is obviously an issue with your hardware, how you created the live ISO or something else.

Most of us don’t need to borrow an Nvidia card as we already have this hardware. I can install it in less than 4 minutes as i have done for the last 5+ years.

EndeavourOS is tested by many with this hardware on bare metal and vm.

I like calamaries it’s just i watch the log and debug was constantly repeating and I did the checksum and the install iso was good and used mx usb creator to create a usb that I used before without issue so even manjaro xfce installs in minutes after I stop the power and screensaver from activating and change display from 4k to hdmi so I can see where the network manager is to click and put my password in.

I’m just going to use what I used originally the 2022 installer with xfce I can use in offline mode then update after installing the OS. I will just delete out of my storage disk the new iso and replace it with a note that this is the best iso to use to install endeavour since I won’t be online no security risk just more time used to update which I’ll start before I go to bed and reboot in the morning.

I’ve always had a Nvidia card and I always install xfce on whatever distro I fancy the week lol.
Never had a problem in years.

I can’t get past the first several lines of text of this topic because it’s all just one big blob of text without proper formatting or at least divided into several paragraphs with spacing in between. But from what I have read from the bits of quoted text there are many people that use either Arch or EndeavorOS with Nvidia, works just fine on both. Might be useful to share which Nvidia gpu you have?

We’re very sorry it didn’t work as expected for you. It is a shame that an OS created by volunteers and is free of charge has these faults on your hardware. We should try our ISO on every single working hardware that is running in the world, a big mistake from us indeed!
I think I’ve apologised enough over here and on X, so I consider this matter solved.

Thank you for giving us a try anyway.
