Installer Bug - Partition slider shows incorrect available space, installation fails unless adjusted

Hi there,

Just wanted to say I’m enjoying Endeavour OS but found a bug during the initial installation which will trip some new users up in particular.

When installing alongside Windows (and possibly other scenarios), the default shown free space on the slider is incorrect. It looks like the slider is set to 50% (split down the middle), however this amount of free space may not be available. When clicking on the slider to move it, it instantly jumps to the position where free space is available and corrects itself.

This causes the installation to error unless you first click on the slider to adjust it and make it “realise” the free space.

Here is a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/EsnOojtPqkE

Probably a simple fix.

Cheers,
Kyle

P.S, if this needs to be reported elsewhere, just let me know.

I’ve never had a Windows disc that full so I haven’t noticed this on any dual boot installs i have done in testing. It’s probably maybe set to check the disc size and then split it in half not using the actual disc size left? :thinking:

I’ve only had it installed on my system when I bought it.

I was thinking similar, It’s seems to be doing that when it’s selected as an option but as the video shows when the bar is clicked it figures it out.

Yes, but maybe not written to deal with it. The partition tools may show it but maybe the code not set to change it? :man_shrugging:

Yeah there just needs to be an initial check of free space then and setting of the bar, rather than only having the bar fix itself once clicked.

partition module…endless possible issues . . . .

Indeed it should calculate maximum space it can use. thanks for sharing th BUG, may this is something needs to get reported on calamares upstream.

@dalto ?
