I was trying to install EndeavorOS on my laptop and it was going fine when I left for a bit and came back to it frozen at 33%, I cannot move the mouse.
If you could post the install log maybe we could help however with the information provided there is little anyone can do.
I waited 45minutes but it did nothing so I had to restart, so do not have any logs, but one problem can be that the os only detects 3.3gb ram for some reason, and the online installer says it needs 4gb recommended, I tried the offline installer the last time and it worked, but i did not like kde that much so was trying to install with no desktop option
I think that memory is not the issue here, but have this feeling that this is somewhere deeper.
Are you certain that the image you downloaded is without errors?
And why do you install system without desktop? There are pretty much different choices available.
Hello,
from my experience installing Endeavour OS some weeks ago I remember, that I had the same impression: installation was hanging at 33% (and later it did the same at 64% or so). As this was on new and fast hardware, I was worried that the process was hanging (and I stopped it).
But as installation showed the same behavior the next time, I gave it a try and so waited and waited and … waited. After quite a while (I do not remember, how long) the process went on and finished (my machine had 64 GB of memory and a fast SSD).
So, maybe you just give it a try. Maybe, it takes even longer on your machine. Be patient.
At the end I got a very good and fast system.
Ciao,
Photor
PS: I changed from KDE to Gnome flavor; I used BtrFs and full encryption of the SSD. This may have caused the long “pause” in between.
Poor internet probably affected by mirrors.
Edit: Try updating and ranking the mirrors first before starting the installer.
you can always toggle to show the detailed log in the main installer window… but very unlikely that the install process itself freezes up… basically in most cases it is about network issues or slow mirror connection. In these cases installer retries 6 times before bailing out to fetch all the packages.
Thats for cases with slow mirrors. If you have only one fast mirror on the list it would not do that.
ranking mirrors before starting installer from the welcome app is known to result in good mirrors. automated process inside installer can be bad in some countries.
With reflector simple you can choose nearby countries manually and adding fallbacks like Germany or US what will help often.
Hey,
I installed endeavorOS offline install and then updated the system, it went on without any problems. I wanted it without any desktop because I wanted to install hyprland and try it but, did it beside kde this way. I think so it was the internet. But just a question the system with just hyprland running at idle has around 1.7-1.9gb ram usage, its same with kde, is that normal, I have seen people get less than 1gb ram usage.
On KDE i doubt it!
yes is totally normal the minimum requirements for KDE
2GB memory
I doubt the memory usage also. My setup with Gnome takes at least 2gb, if my memory serves me correctly (on the job right now, computer at home).
