Install gearlever as Flatpak or from the AUR?

I want to install gearlever to manage random AppImages. The package is now available both as Flatpak and in the AUR. Which should I choose? The Flatpak base is already installed on my computer.

Flatpak vs AUR is a debate seem to be passionate about.

If you search you will find many people posting their opinions in various topics.

You can feel free to use either, it is personal preference.

In the larger scheme of things, it probably didn’t really matter, either way. Personally, I avoid flatpacks and appimages when possible as I prefer to use pacman and yay… Keeps everything under the same umbrella and keeps life simpler and consistent.

But again, not a big decision, despite the raft of opinions.

Personally, I’ve always gone with what the developer recommends on their Github/Gitlab/Wiki for the project. If they say Flatpak, I go with that. If they say AUR, I go with that. For me, it doesn’t matter, since what I want is a smooth experience more than anything else.

I think this decision is ultimately yours. Maybe test both and see which one performs better and has the least amount of issues running for you.

Thanks for your answers. Thanks to you, I have now found the solution to this problem: the solution is that there is no solution. I will install the gearlever package from the AUR, just on a whim…

Have a nice weekend everyone  !
