Image Editor for lazy people

Guys I need some help.

I am looking for something that is almost a complete and total ripoff of MS Paint. By that I mean both feature set and UI layout. Over the last few hours I have installed and removed about 8 different editors that claim to be simple, yet none of them can draw a simple text box to type in, or put an arrow pointing at something, or draw a oval.

Would be super duper neato if it looked almost, if not exactly like this -

Sure I could probably learn GiMP. But, I am lazy. I’d really like to use what I know.

Does there exist a program out there that will do what I need with a learning curve of less than 2 minutes?

Maybe mypaint, it’s designed fo rpainters but it’s exceptionally simple.

It sounds like you want vector tools though, not sure if mypaint has these.

You would probably be best served learning krita, it’s about the best image editing software on offer on linux, and although it’s keybinds are a bit weird, it’s overall fairly intuitive to learn and use (unlike, say, gimp) while still being feature rich and competing in the same relative space as photoshop and gimp.

It will do everything you need and it’s very popular so tutorials should be abundantly available.

In case you’re just going to edit screenshots, flameshot does include simple editing such as texts, ovals and arrows.

Additonally, gwenview also has basic editing / annotation capabilities… and is more less included with the EnOS install when using KDE Plasma.

To find such programs, a pragmatic approach:

pacman -Ss paint # for native packages
yay -Ss paint # for AUR too
yay -Ss paint ms # more like MS?

Maybe krita is worth checking? Note that I haven’t really used it, but it looks quite promising to me.

I believe there is also kde’s kolourpaint which I think I remember reading was inspired by ms paint.

It indeed looks quite similar to MS Paint, the tool bar looks like the tools it offers are pretty much identical to ms paint.

+1 for KolourPaint :art:

KolourPaint looks good, but since I am using XFCE - I don’t want to install the dependencies for it.

@1093i3511 - Screen shot editing is what I was after at first and I like flameshot. Seems to offer exactly what I needed.

@xircon I admit - I had that installed, but was tired, took a 20 second look at it and quit. Now that I have rested up somewhat, I’ll spend more time with it.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I hope you all have a great day.

ksnip is a screenshot utility packaged with simple drawing tools such as text box, shapes, arrows, etc. It will also allow you to open & edit common image files. Probably won’t comply with your 2 minute learning curve though. Took me about 5 to nail down the basics.
