I need your music player recommendations!

I am very picky when it comes to music players, but here are the main features that I need:

  • It must support reading all kinds of tags, including Vorbis FLAC tags, and the like.
  • It must allow me to sort by “Album Artist”. This is not the same as sorting by simply “Album” or “Artist”. The Album Artist is intended to be a single name, even if the album contains tracks with many collab releases. For example, I do not want to see “Linkin Park” and “Linkin Park / JayZ” as two separate artists, I want them all to be under the “Album Artist” Linkin Park.
  • It must display synced lyrics. Thanks to the package “LRCGET”, I have been able to obtain some synchronized (“timed”) lyrics for my music, and I need a player that can display these lyrics.
  • While I do not typically use the EQ, it would still be nice to have EQ support built into the player, but this is more optional.

In the past, I have been able to find players that had one feature or the other, but never one that had both the lyric display and the “Album Artist” sorting. If you know of one, please let me know. GUI or CLI is fine. I would prefer GUI so I can see album art, but I can compromise on this.

Install mpd and put Retrotube on it.
But it seems to me that this is all passing… I went through a large number of players, but in the end I use mpd + quimup :wink:

There are just something I refuse to give up. SolSuite for one so installed through Wine. As for music player AIMP installed through Wine as well.

And how do you configure the audio output via Alsa in Wine? :thinking:

Try fooyin. It’s got lyrics for most songs, not sure which library it uses. You’ll have to customize the layout to get what you want, but you can.

Don’t think it has a built in equalizer yet, tho it’s on the roadmap.

Def has tags and artist-album, but it’s on you to set up properly (Pretty sure there’s a default for it, not my use case)
