I didn't realize how much I love KDE Plasma... Until today

E

About a month and a half ago, my trusty old MacMini died. So I got a new MiniPC. I’d been using KDE Plasma for ages so I thought I’d revisit Cinnamon, my second favorite DE. And I still do love cinnamon. But I think I love it on a laptop rather than a desktop. I found my self theming things to look like KDE Plasma, subconsciously I guess. So yesterday I did a fresh clean install of EndeavourOS KDE Plasma. And damn it feels good to be back home on Plasma.

So my laptop will be getting a fresh clean install of EOS Cinnamon in the near future. As for my desktop, all the apps I need/want are installed, I configured Konsole with Fish shell, added Fisher plugin and configured Tide Prompt, added my custom Fastfetch config… now time to play around with theming. :enos_flag:

I hear you on this, - I have yet to find any other DE that is even remotely as customisable as Plasma. From a visually impaired perspective, it’s the difference between being able to get on with my life, and getting stuck and having to ask for help. You cannot put a price on something that gives you independence.

If you like Plasma, consider installing the Widget “Panel Colorizer”. It offers a lot more customization without needing to install third party themes.

I like Plasma because it’s sleek, smooth and simple, and I know if I want to customize it, I can easily do so. It was my first ever DE after I ditched Windows with Kubuntu, and I instantly fell in love with it. Here comes EOS and the speed & up to date nature of Arch, and I loved it even more. Pretty much the only DE I use. While I was installing pure Arch on this rig a few days ago, I had no second thoughts about which desktop environment I was going to use.

@UncleSpellbinder
I would like this icon for the plasma application launcher but it’s smaller when i load it compared to the default icon. Is it because it’s .png? it seems larger than it would need to be but shows too small compared to the default application launcher icon. Maybe you can create one for that purpose?

When you find your match you simply know it. It’s been the same with me and XFCE. I moved to plasma for a month only to go back to XFCE and a feeling of “aaahhh, home” just told me my DE and I are a pair.

I’m at work at the moment checking out the forum on break. I’ll touch base when I get home in a couple hours.

@ricklinux, I don’t know that being a .png should matter. Iv’e used .png images/icons for everything from my application menu icon to application icons, and more. No issues to speak of.

Having said that, I created a .zip for you to download from my MEGA account. It has the image in various sizes…

48x36, 60x45, 125x95, 250x190, 500x385, 1000x770

I hope one of them will work for you.

You can download it HERE.

Thanks very much. It seems it doesn’t change no matter what size of icon i use. It looks the same. Seems a little small compared to the default.

Could it be to do with the width of your panel and icon sizes on the panel?
Converting image to an svg does also make a difference.

My first ever build with pure Arch was with XFCE, that was almost 15 years ago now. I remember how much I liked it then. I’ve been a Plasma user for a long time since they stripped out a lot of the bloat and made it faster. But I still have a soft spot for XFCE too.

It’s hard for me to tell looking at the image. I’ll try converting it to an svg and see.

Yer it’s only slightly noticeable but seems to display slightly better (the png seems to be scaled oddly making it look a bit stretched)
