I can't log in from plasma 6 wayland login

Hi, I reinstalled EOS today in offline mode with the kde desktop, and after the update (after the installation) I can’t access the PC with wayland, but only in x11 from the login screen. Every time I try in wayland it returns me to the login screen and doesn’t log in (obviously the password is correct, switching to x11 everything is fine).

How can I solve the problem?

Some folks have reported setting additional kernel parameters is required with Wayland + Nvidia, for example here:

I only added nvidia_drm.modeset=1 nvidia_drm.fbdev=1 to mine to get wayland working.I read a few posts and the first may have been all that was needed but I have no issues with both so it works.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have a full amd cfg. As a video card I have an AMD Radeon RX 6750XT. Anyway, I’ll take a look at it.

[sermor@sermor-eospc ~]$ inxi -G

You shouldn’t be having any issue with amdgpu. I have both Ryzen with amdgpu running on Wayland and also Intel with Nvidia Gpu. Both are desktops. It seems mostly it is hybrid laptops with nvidia that have issues. So I’m not sure what you mean by full amd cfg?

I found the solution, at least as far as I’m concerned I found it in this thread:

Basically all I needed to do was remove the “exec startx” command in my bash.profile.
As you can see now, I was able to log into wayland:

[sermor@sermor-eospc ~]$ inxi -G

I also have a desktop PC, and by cfg full amd I mean both cpu and gpu, in my case an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and an AMD Radeon RX 6750XT.

The problem arose because I reinstalled EOS offline (the online installation always failed, so I opted for the offline one), and by updating the system upon reboot I couldn’t enter wayland mode.

Nice… I have an AMD RX 6750XT sitting on the sidelines with parts and 5800X Ryzen waiting for another day when i assemble it.

Edit:

Was this on an older ISO as i remember this issue before.

Well, I went back to AMD after years of using Intel PCs. Then for Linux having an AMD video card above all is the best thing if you want to play. However I would say that amd is very good.

Oh yes, the ISO I used dates back to the end of last year, I think it is the previous one to the one that is now on the site. I’m waiting for the ISO to come out with the 6.8 kernel and plasma already updated to version 6 and maybe I’ll try a clean installation again.

I must say, however, that the problem of the online installation failing also occurred to me before, with the previous ISO (I think it was EOS Cassini Nova). Sometimes it worked, often it didn’t.

I say this because in the past few months I have started using Linux and I have also had multiple distros on my PC, up to 3 Linux distros at the same time in addition to Windows. But now I’m only left with EOS and Windows 11, which I use very little.

I should have read the post better.Sorry about that I thought you were using nvidia.

No problem!
